Melava Malka BBQ
Melava Malka BBQ
May 02, 2015
When was the last time you attended a nighttime barbeque and attempted to locate the Little Dipper star formation or search for the Ursa Minor constellation? For that matter, do you ever stop and ponder what type of coal is being used in the grill? If you're like most people, probably not. Then again, when is the last time you attended a nighttime barbeque and stopped to realize all the preparations that went into making the successful event? Better yet, when is the last time you offered to assist in the preparing, planning, setup or cleanup of such events? Bluntly stated are you a taker or giver in life? Biologically speaking, Hashem Yisborach created us to be takers. One of the many examples of this being true, is the natural position of our hands. For example, if we relax our hand muscles, our fingers naturally revert to a closed position. From birth, we inherently become complacent with 'hand outs' and expect people to provide for our needs. As we grow older and refine our character, we hopefully learn to appreciate everything that is done on our behalf. Hakaras HaTov is a fundamental belief in Judaism. This past Motsai Shabbos, the yeshiva got together in the valley behind the Yeshiva's building and enjoyed a Melave Malka BBQ. It goes without saying, when the seasoned personalities and special talents of everyone join together, rest assured you will have an enjoyable time. The coals have long been extinguished. Our devoted Rabbeim shared their beautiful thoughts. The grill masters have hung up their aprons. The guitarist has packed away his six stringed instrument. All of the ingredients for a delicious Melave Malka were put into the mix. After everything is said and done, there is just one thing left to do appreciate. With that in mind, a hearty thank you goes out to all those that made this memorable event happen. You know who you are. Locating the Little Dipper or searching for the Ursa Minor is for a chosen few. Realizing and appreciating what other do for us, is for everyone.
